Congratulations Phan Dang, RN!

Congratulations to Phan Dang, RN, for her excellence and dedication to the field of nursing and to the patients, families and staff of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

We are pleased to announce she has won a Nurse.com Nursing Excellence Award in the Patient and Staff Management category for her efforts as a Manager, of Patient Care Services and her role in Rehabilitative Medicine. The award recognizes extraordinary contributions that nurses make to their patients, each other and the profession. To receive this award is one of the highest honors in the nursing field.

This is the first time in the award’s history that a hospital has had five finalists in one year. An accomplishment the leaders and staff of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles are proud to stand behind.

Congratulations to our four finalists:

  1. Rachel Guzman, RN, Operations Manager. A finalist in Patient and Staff Management category.
  2. Inge Morton, RN, Education/Clinical Manager, Emergency Department. A finalist in Education and Mentorship category.
  3. Sheila Kun, RN, Nurse Care Manager, Pulmonology. A finalist in Home, Community and Ambulatory Care category.
  4. Jennifer Huson, RN, Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. A finalist in Volunteerism and Service.

Winning this award reinforces Phan’s belief that doing the right thing is always the right path to take. When we met with her, she reflected back on the reason she became a nurse; she wanted to provide a better life for her family. “My parents had sacrificed so much to give my siblings and I a better future,” Phan explains.

Phan has been a nurse at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles since 2008. The positive impact she has made in four years is what inspired her peers to nominate her. She puts patients and staff first. Phan shares,

“I absolutely love being a nurse! Not only do I have an opportunity to make a positive difference in a child’s life, but also in a staff member’s life. As a manager, I am in a strong position to do both daily. It’s such a blessing to be able to help others. I really am thankful for Lou Ellen Stallworth and my unit, 6North-Acute Rehabilitation for taking the time and effort to nominate me. This gesture truly solidify they do believe and trust me to take our specialty to the next level. Our group is an amazing team and I am proud to be a part of it.”
