
Child pedestrian deaths double on Halloween night.
The scariest costume your child can wear is one that makes him or her invisible to drivers on the road.
Many kids will be out trick-or-treating while it is dark, when it is more difficult for drivers to see them. Children younger than age 12 should not be alone crossing streets on Halloween without an adult.

Unintentional injury remains one of the top five leading causes of death in children.
The Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles sees far too many accidents taking place in the home, ranging from falls, near drowning, poisonings and even burns.
While constant supervision is the best way to prevent injuries, using layers of protection can help reduce the risk of home related injuries to children. Even the most watchful parents can’t keep kids completely out of harm’s way every second of the day, and utilizing tools can aid even the busiest parent.

Congrats to the Media Relations team at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for placing in the The 63rd Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards!
For the second year in a row, the hospital was nominated and won “Televison’s Gold” in the Children/Youth Programming category for Imagine: A Celebration of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The program aired on ABC 7 last fall and was hosted by star Kate Walsh, of the show “Private Practice.”

For parents, it’s often a shock when their child’s pediatrician returns with a diagnosis of asthma. They can feel overwhelmed because as of yet, asthma cannot be cured. However, parents and children alike should take heart in the knowledge that with preventative measures and appropriate treatment, asthma can be controlled.

After two months at the NICU where he was born, he developed complications that required surgical intervention. He was flown, in the dead of night, to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which is four hours from our home.
Upon arrival, I remember thinking, “How could this HUGE, advanced, 32 bed NICU provide our family the same support and care we received at our local hospital?” But to my pleasant surprise, I found the same care, attention to detail, and love at this larger hospital and Children’s became our home away from home.
